| Our final attempt to revive the Bullet. Notice how C is dressed. We were indeed on our way to see West Side Story. Sadness. |
Oh how I've just left my faithful blog reader(s?) hanging! It seems only right to give the final pieces of of the car saga it's rightful place on the blog.
The diagnosis was bleak and expensive and we knew the time had come to say goodbye to our 1997 red Pontiac Grand Am with 251,000 miles on it. I won't lie - there was some sadness. My mom (in utter awesomeness) earned this car (as in, got it brand new for FREE) as a Mary Kary representative. It's been with my family since it's beginning. We drove it as a family from Idaho to Canada or California and back countless times. It gave us great memories in high school, college and has been with me and C for our entire marriage. Yes, we've been through a lot together. Our final goodbyes were bitter-sweet (the sweet coming from the fact that someone actually threw a little money our way for it.....yes, the Bullet lives on!)
Then came the hunt. We wanted something versatile, with a good amount of space AND good gas mileage. A tall order indeed. The next few days were filled with endless online research, numerous dealership visits, phone calls and what might go down as the most impressive haggling of my life. The result? A sweet deal on a 2011 Hyundai Elantra Touring.
Aside from driving it back from the dealership and going to and from church the next day, the Lone Star's real maiden voyage was a trip with Flat Stanley to see the wildflowers. We look forward to epic rides for many years to come.
